Aaron Sorkin and Christopher Nolan Winners at the WGA Awards

Aaron Sorkin has added another award to his growing list of accolades gathered for his brilliant screenplay for The Social Network, winning the Best Adapted Screenplay award from the Writers Guild of America over the weekend. He beat out fellow contenders Joel and Ethan Coen for True Grit, Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy for 127 Hours, John Requa and Glenn Ficcara for I Love You Phillip Morris, and Peter Craig, Ben Affleck and Aaron Stockard for The Town. This award brings Sorkin closer to taking out the coveted Oscar at the 83rd Academy Awards at the end of the month.

Christopher Nolan took out the award for Best Original Screenplay for Inception. The Academy surprisingly snubbed Nolan for his directorial work, so it is nice to see him receive some recognition here. He beat out contenders Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin for Black Swan, Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson for The Fighter, Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg for The Kids Are All Right and Nicole Holofcener for Please Give. Nolan is unlikely to win from the Academy at the end of the month, who seem set to give the award to David Seidler for The King's Speech, who was out of contention here.

  1. Aaron Sorkin's uninhibited ego will be forever growing with all these accolades. Perhaps this will prompt the one thing everyone wants from him - a second series of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
